May the Fleas of 10,000 Dogs Infest Your Groin

September 10, 2009

Thanks to Janice of The Friends of Gummi for this Post-ertunity!

This sign was posted for two days at the Naples Country Club on North Tamiami Trail between Vanderbilt Beach Road and Immokalee Road.  The sign was only there over one night so apparently code enforcement got to it!  Of course, we at Friends of Gummi wholeheartedly LOVE this message:

Why do they love this message, you may be asking?  Well, Janice and her gang of volunteers run a no-kill rescue non-profit for cats and dogs in Naples, Florida.

A year ago, May, we (Mr. and Ms. MaidenShade) fostered 4 orphaned kittens (see “Cattail” and “Cattail II” on You Tube) for her organization, and ended up keeping 2!  The Friends of Gummi do a heck of a job in a very tough economy and could use anything you’re willing to give, be it time or $$$.

Here’s a Shout Out to Janice and her crew in Naples with a bit of history below (go to the website to read the complete “About Us”.

Friends of Gummi, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Janice Rudolph, and our 501 (C) 3 non-profit status was granted by the IRS. The initial mission was to provide veterinary care for indigent, elderly, or disabled pet owners in Collier County, Florida; and to help adopt out pets from our high-kill government shelter. Our mission has changed over the years and our focus is now on the rescue (and fostering) & adoption of abandoned, abused and surrendered pets which have dramatically increased over the years.

2009
Kittens and cats were abandoned in huge numbers in 2008 partly due to all the home foreclosures.  Donations are down this year so far by some 50% still due to the economic crisis…

Friends of Gummi’s success is due to the wonderful support of some local veterinarians namely Harborside Animal Clinic in Naples and Estero Animal Hospital, as well as the many dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to help save the lives of our wonderful cats and dogs who so deserve a chance for a happy and healthy life.

Last, but not least, we believe our success is due to the support of our many generous contributors who share our mission to save as many homeless pets as possible & get them into loving, forever homes.

Friends of Gummi has adopted out over 16,000 loving pets from 1997 to date.

What a sign. I can’t believe it was in Naples. If there was ever a curse, this is it.

Thanks for dropping by my kitchen today. It’s very nice to meet you and happy pink Saturday to you.
